At around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25, Jordan Childs was reportedly driving a Dodge Durango recklessly in a car with an expired inspection on South Gateway Drive in Stafford, prompting a traffic stop by local law enforcement.
According to a spokesperson from the Stafford County Sheriff's Office, Childs initially complied, but when a deputy was checking on the status of his driver's license, the deputy saw the Dodge shift into gear, and he sped away from the traffic stop onto Warrenton Road, prompting a pursuit that reached speeds exceeded 110 mph, though fate had something else in mind.
The Stafford resident continued on to Poplar Road, but was unable to keep up the pace, striking an embankment, which damaged his left front tire. The pursuit extended onto Truslow Road, but the tire proceeded to shred, leaving Childs with few options.
Childs relented and pulled off to the shoulder in the 1500 block of Poplar Road, where he surrendered, and the cause for the chase was revealed.
During a search of his Durango, deputies recovered reported controlled substances and loose 9mm ammo. While running back the police pursuit, a 9mm Taurus handgun was also found in the 1600 block of Truslow Road.
The ammunition in the handgun matched the ammunition found in the Dodge, investigators noted.
Childs was cited for:
- Felony eluding;
- Reckless driving;
- Failing to stop at a stop sign;
- Failing to obey a traffic light;
- Obstruction;
- Littering;
- Concealed weapon.
He is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail. Officials said that additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
